The Story Of...

This game was made for an emergent game assignment by a team of 2 people. The both of us decided to create a story where each dialogue option would lead to a drastically different outcome, as opposed to many story games where many choices don’t matter in the end.

The Game

In the game the player takes on the role of a bartender on a distant space station. As a text-based game, the player can choose a dialogue option which presents them with a unique response. Depending on how the player responds to each customer the story changes drastically. The player might join a crew of space pirates, become the leader of a crime syndicate or just live a normal everyday life.

 

The game’s script features a total of over 25000 words with different choices that result in a total of 27 unique endings.

My Role

After brainstorming I came up with the concept and design of the game. I also wrote the vast majority of the story, which included planning out each of the possible branches as well creating the appropriate  choice dialogues related to each of the conversations .

Current State

The game’s story was mostly finished and implemented at the end of the project period, however the background visuals aren’t present for most of the game due to time constraints. Also given the vast amount of branches not all have been tested thoroughly and bugs are present. Nonetheless the game was well received and we got a good grade from our teacher.
