Exploding Sheeps

This game was made during the 48 hour GMTK game jam of 2021 with the theme ‘Joined Together’ by a team of 6. After brainstorming upon the given theme, we went with the concept of combining different elements together which could have a positive or negative effect.

The Game

Exploding sheep is played from an isometric perspective. The player is in control of a sheep herding dog and can move around in a pasture.

In this pasture, a number of sheep are roaming about, when the player nears a sheep it runs away in a different direction. Each sheep starts with an element, when colliding with another sheep that has a compatible element, a sheep with an advanced element is created.

 

For example, when an earth sheep and a fire sheep collide it creates an advanced lava sheep. However, when two incompatible sheep collide it results in unwanted effects that hinders the player.

 

Therefore the player must navigate the meadow, combine the correct sheep together while trying to avoid the incompatible sheep and guide the advanced elemental sheep into the correct barns.

My Role

I refined the design of the game after someone else created the initial concept. Furthermore I also worked on the level design for the first and fourth level, and also implemented many of the assets and effects.

Current State

The game was published at the end of the Game Jam. While it was a fun game to create, due to the limited time of a Game Jam, the game has some flaws which could have been tweaked more. More playtesting would have been preferable to identify and resolve these issues.
