GAME DESIGNER
This project was given out by the Hanze University, the goal was to create a VR game using the HTC Vive for our client Ambulancezorg Groningen. The aim of this prototype was to help train paramedics in dealing with young patients that suffer from burn wounds. Ambulancezorg wanted to have a digital training alternative that would cost less and be more efficient than the current practical training tools they used.

The Game
In the simulation the player plays as a paramedic arriving at a domestic scene. At the scene the player finds a child that suffers from burn injuries and a distressed parent is present as well.
Through interviews with ambulance personnel we discovered that a distressed parent or other family member proved to be the most difficult element in a situation such as this. The player is tasked with performing the correct treatment on the injured child while also making sure the parent remains calm through selecting dialogue options.
My Role
I had the designer role for this project. I performed desk research and worked with the ambulance personnel to learn more about their process, equipment and personal experiences.
After that I translated the research into design requirements for our project and how to create an effective training experience. I also wrote the script for the parent and child actors and was in charge of the recording session.
Current State
Once the project had ended we showcased and tested the game with ambulance personnel, who responded positively towards it. Ambulancezorg Groningen however didn’t continue development afterwards and a public build hasn’t been released.
